Hullo, all, and thanks for all your kind comments recently.
A while ago, Col. Corbane asked what my plans were for the future of my Guard army, and in my last post Oni asked how many points I was up to these days. I plan to answer both of these queries as briefly as possible today.
Firstly: expansion of my Imperial Guard has ceased - at least for the foreseeable future. The recent TOEMP challenges (see logo, tight) and the creation of my new painting chart have made me realise that I pretty much have the Guard army I want. I also have no spare cash at all and a sprog on the way.
Funnily enough, the advent of the new codex has had two important effects:
Firstly, it's forced me to reorganise (and rationalise) my forces (from two full companies [one rifle; one support] to one larger, self-supporting 'tactical' company), thus needing fewer models for completion (although I already had all the models I wanted);
Secondly, and partially as a result of the above, it's lowered my army's points total, from 6800-ish to 5250-ish. Plus my ol' baneblade. That's a considerable drop.
As it stands, then, my future intentions are essentially to paint the army I have. Nothing unusual there, I know, but here's the good bit: slow as I am, I'm actually within sight of finishing it!
The "army I have" is essentially what follows (this is up-to-date, by the way):
I also have enough spare odds and sods to make another infantry platoon (and probably another three stormtrooper squads too, if I'm desperate enough!).
And what will the far future hold? Well, I'd like to put together a squadron of valkyries...but that will simply have to wait!
Cheers,
- Drax.
Ah, the never ending painting war that devours beginners and veterans alike. I really like the organization chart you have, I may have to steal the idea in order to keep my crazed obsession in control.
ReplyDeleteCheers!
looking at that chart Im thinking: Can we see some WIP photo's of the five snipers you're working on, Zarathustra, etc etc!
ReplyDeleteGreat post Drax, it really got me thinking about my army as well - I'm very nearly in the same boat as you - barring a couple units that still require assembly I have all the guard that I could possibly need, and really need to focus on painting up what there is before I go haring off on new projects...
ReplyDeleteI really dig the org chart you've made, both from a fluff perspective and as a method of tracking what is complete and what still needs work. This will mark yet another fantastic idea of yours that I'll need to utilize for my own purposes. :)
Keep up the great work, my man - I look forward to what you come up with next!
Excellent charty goodness. When ASUS finally fixes my old girl we shall have fun together in chart land. It makes me want to plan out all 2/3 companies of the 24th Fortunan, which is a scary thing indeed, as then I'll need to do a vehicle company and possibly a recon or stormtrooper company...
ReplyDeleteI'm going to be poor for a while now, aren't I?
I am now jealous of how finished your army is. Time to get cracking again on mine.
ReplyDeleteLike others have said I think I may also have to steal the paint chart idea. Nice way of keeping track of whats done etc.
Keep up the good work, and I hope to see some pics of your baneblade up soon (hint hint). :)

Well well, I can see you're quite close to the end, actually!
ReplyDeleteI think I pretty much have the same, after I got the last Chimera and the Manticore, I've got more-or-less everything I want. It'd be nice to enhance it with say, another Hellhound/Banewolf and some sort of Super Heavy, but those are pushed very far back. I'm still nowhere close to the ammount of troops you have though! My army clocks around 3000 points.
The chart idea is great by the way. I think I'll do something like that for my Wolves, if you don't mind stealing the idea. ;) (I'm not too original in that, am I?)
My word verification is pantid. Almost like painted!
Very nice mate! A squadron of Valkyries, huh? That does sound like a tempting project, you've got to admit! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, all,
ReplyDeleteI can't recommend the painting chart enough - not least beacuse it's a great way of visualising the Cadian hordes without having to un-box all the buggers. I've almost no grasp of MS Excel, but I managed it pretty easily.
I might even try to get the baneblade 'Zarathustra' up-and-running soon, for those of you who've been asking...
So close Drax, keep going mate.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I could do the same for the Corbanian 1st, I think I'd cry if I actually saw how much I've got left to paint before I'm finished, if I ever am.
Can't wait to see them all mustered.
