What this means - essentially - is that I think it's time, at last, for me to finally put together that Stormtrooper platoon I always intended to. Yes, they're expensive to field, and yes, I may have to do a wee bit more conversions for weapons etc., but...
...we're getting the band back together.
Earlier tonight I delved into the (increasingly dilapidated) shed and dug out the remaining 28 beret-style stormies I've accumulated over the years:

The original beret Storm Troopers used to be so awesome when they where released. I think I've got a Heavy weapon team of them still lying around. Holler if you got use for them, then I would start digging for them. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI fancy the Kasrkin, though right now I'm working on lists to see if I should keep fielding them as Veterans or swap them back to Storm Troopers. Got about 40 of them, so I'm thinking of splitting them up and giving them different paint schemes to show who's a Veteran and a Scion.
For the heads, you could also be a bit patient and look at your favorite bits dealer. The Scion have about 19 heads in the box per 5 minis, so you'll be able to grab some for cheap for sure.
I got myself some beret heads from Micro Art studios once. They are pretty nice, though it's a pretty hard resin and as you have to trim their necks a bit to fit on the regular models, it's a bit of fiddly work.

I got into their Kickstarter in order to get some of the Troopers to use them as Storm Troopers in the first place. Here are some nice pics of the various models: http://www.ragingheroes.com/blogs/news/9677599-25-troopers-and-more .
As I bought some RH-figures in the past, I know how awesome they look. They are rather slim compared to GWs "Heroic scale", but still fit nice enough and make a nice centerpiece model / unit.

Those stormtroopers were the my 1st purchase in the world of 40k. The 2nd being the 3rd ed. Box set. Good luke and looking forward to seeing thse guys get some paint.

DeleteI'm very jealous of those stormtroopers. I have 2 squads of bulky troopers myself which will be getting the scion treatment soon. I love the idea of stormtrooper platoons now. Looking forward to seeing these guys progress. Mad Robot are a brilliant company and their sculpts are stunning. I treated myself a little while ago. Definetly worth the postage costs.

DeleteI really like the old school stormtroopers. Back in third edition I used them as the troopers for an Elysian Drop troop army based on the White Dwarf army list. I need to dig mine out and take a few pictures of them. Looking forward to seeing yours painted.

ReplyDeleteI'm sat looking at my desk, and I have a scion tempesty bloke part way through paint, putting him next to my kasrkin, he's okay. scale wise he fits, but the model is just.. too fancy, too many gribbly bits of gothic touched for my style of Guard.

DeleteI think that's the problem with the majority of the new miniatures "too fancy, too many gribbly bits of gothic" - in every range. I think the designers need a reminder that sometimes less is more
