494 - First Bolt Action British - Finished!

[...pretty much.]

With hearty thanks to all those of you who offered such wonderful and helpful advice: I've lightened the First Six with a light drybrush in key places and almost finished the basing.
I say 'almost' because I fully intend to add some higher grass tufts or flowers to the bases, but I don't actually own any, and I've banned myself from ANY hobby spending this month after a splurge.

Here them be:

After some further advice from Karitas, I might even try highlighting their faces a little, but watch this space...

Cheers,

- Drax.

  1. Hmm.. I dont think I comment as much now that you're doing more none 40K stuff, but I've still been reading. Those are really looking good. Keep up the good work, and we'll be watching!

    1. I'm so sorry, Argos: things have just turned in a different direction these days. Don't give up hope though!

      Cheers for the comment, mate.

PS: the next post may just be of 40K interest: I'm reviewing some bases etc.

    1. Hmm...

I'm not sure how much contact 11AD had with the Poles, but I might in the distant, distant future put together a Para section... and the Poles were on the right side of the river...

  3. They look good. The black bull patches look perfect. Some flowers or tufts would look nice. Those very detailed faces are just screaming for a quick highlight. Mix a tiny bit of white with your flesh color and hit the tip of the nose, tip of the chin, top of the cheekbones, and maybe a few of the pronounced lines around the mouth and the faces will really pop. The small numbers you need make these great models to push your technique.

    1. Thank you...

...and damn you! You make it sound (and look!) so easy! I know full well that they'll look like the bastard offspring of clowns and drag queens if I try that...

...but of course - in deference to you, Sir - I will endeavour to do just that.

I'll let you know - promise.

Thanks for having faith in me.

  4. Look fine from here mate - really like these. Those pronounced features on their faces really lend to easy skin highlights, should you go that route.

    1. Grrrr...

You're every bit as bad as Cameron.

Alright then - I will give it a go.

      Grrr...

    2. No, he's worse as he's a better painter then I. :P

Just don't be too heavy handed with how much of the lighter colour you use. Subtle wins out always imo.

    3. Especially if you have already given them a wash. 1 part white to 4-5 parts of the flesh color you used should look great.

  5. I'm a bad person and worse blogger for neglecting my beloved Imperial Guard. So sorry!

I will endeavour to remedy what I can, though...

    Cheers for swinging by.
