018 A/P Squad C

August '09 - NB: Since the new Codex: Imperial Guard, my fire support platoons have been disbanded, and their constituent units re-allocated. In this case, these autocannon teams are now part of 1 Tactical Platoon.

Hooray! Thanks to suggestions from Col. Gravis, I have now completed the autocannon squad (to go with the missile launcher squad and, soon, the hvy bolter squad) for D Coy's 1st F/Sup platoon.

This lot oughtn't to require much explaining, so here they are:
Two things of note. First, the bases: each is a normal 40K 25mm base halved and stuck either side of a Warhammer Fantasy 25mm base; the gaps subsequently filled in with greenstuff. As I say, thanks to Col. Gravis for this, because I'd tried lots of different approaches previously, and wasn't happy with any of them - especially in gameplay. If you look carefully, you can see the joins.
The other thing is the 'sniper' - as was. A very early attempt at converting a trooper into a sniper, this guy somehow found himself in one of the fire support platoons. Don't ask.
So there you go...enjoy!

  1. This idea is so good, that other ideas look at it in awe and jealousy. I could just kick myself for all the Hvy Weapons teams I've mounted on their big round bases now. I even converted them so that the second team member was removable. A nice touch but rendered totally unnecessary by this conversion! You sir, Rock! (as does the gentleman who taught you this method)

  2. Thanks, Matey!

    - Would that I could take the full credit for it, eh?
I don't get to game very much at all, but before I had the weapons tripods on separate round bases - this looked great but was a right pain in the backside when it came to blast weapons etc: 9 bases for a 6-man squad.
The next phase might even involve weighting the front ed of the bases, so they're less likely to fall backwards from Cities of Death buildings.
And yes - Col Gravis does appear to rock: he does stuff with green stuff that I'd have trouble even painting!

  3. The base idea is great, what a simple solution.

I just found your blog, thanks for the link, you've been added to mine too!

Keep up the good work, I don't know how you IG guys do it with all those models... I've got 26 guys in my Deathwing and that's plenty for me.

  4. Thanks, Ronsaikowski (Ron?)

Y'know - I've been slowly amassing my IG hordes since getting back into the hobby in 2003. Last Winter I was finally happy with the models I had accumulated (way over 260 troops, all told, plus my light vehicles and tanks) but very few of them were painted, and not all of them as I wanted them to be.

Now at last I have about [rough guesses here] 1500pts completely finished; about 2500pts playably painted;and about 7000+pts in total. So there's a long way to go. And painting little men swiftly and convincingly really isn't a strongpoint of mine!

Plus it's VERY rarely that I get a chance to play. Which is a shame.

Thanks for the comments and the interest - are your Deathwing online? If so, I'll try to hunt them down.

    Cheers,

    - Drax.
