354 Rest in Peace, Faithful Corgi

Sad tidings, Dear Readers:

Cadfael, our ever-faithful and utterly venerable pet corgi (and regular feature on the pages of this blog) has died, aged 16-and-a-half, whilst on holiday with us in Norfolk a couple of days ago.
Words cannot adequately express the emptiness that my wife and I are feeling at his loss, but I know some of you have met him and more of you have followed his triumphs and tribulations over the years, so I thought I ought to let you know. Never was a dog so loved.
I'll probably have more to say about him here when we get back to Devon, but the cottage is going to seem horribly lonesome without him.

Ach.

Thank you for your kind comments about him over the years, guys.

- Chris.

  1. Sorry for your loss Drax, it has always hit me hard when a pet dies, you have my sympathy. Our cat is of a similar venerable age and I am genuinely fearful of the day he goes as it will cut both me and the wife deep. All the best.

  5. Sorry for your loss, his brief trip up here was no problem at all for anyone, he seemed to like the travel and being a corgi, always seemed to get the 'oh, doesn't the Queen have corgis ?' type comments.

  6. Sorry. My first and only pet dog when I was young was a corgi, well mostly corgi.

  9. I'm so sorry to hear that, the loss of a pet is horrible, you have my deepest sympathies. Remember the good times, of which I'm sure there were enough to fill volumes, and it makes it that little bit easier.

Venerable Cadfael had a grand innings which I'm sure means you have a wealth of fond memories to cherish and help comfort you.

    Daughter(3): Daddy, why's Mummy sad?
Me: It's because she misses Cadfael.
Daughter: Is that because he died?
Me: Yes, I'm afraid so. We won't be seeing him again.
    Daughter: Like Granddad's dog?
Me: Just like that yes. So it's okay to feel sad for a bit.
Daughter: Don't worry Daddy - I'll help you cheer Mummy up.

  18. Really sorry to hear of your loss buddy. Caddy was a trooper and a cracking wee dog. Luckily, your girl is probably young enough that the loss won't stick for long. You next dog, and there deserves to be one, will be the heart and soul of your children's lives - choose carefully! Much love man.

I haven't visited your blog for a bit and now I'm sorry I didn't visit earlier.

  22. Thank you, Guys.

Nocker: sorry, mate. They're real characters, aren't they?

And Dai: I hope you appreciated the pic of him in his spiritual home - Pembroke Castle!

  23. Man, I haven't been to Pembroke in decades. Went to community college in Haverfordwest which isn't too far from there. Lovely castle though and Cadfael suits it just fine.. :)
