205 Father's Day

My dad never went in for 'father's day', but apparently my daughter does. I'm very grateful for this. Here's her first ever artistic effort, and it simply melted my heart:
At seven months she's already a better painter than her dad!

204 Wheeled APC Teaser Pics

It's late, I'm travelling upcountry after work tomorrow, and I really ought to be in bed...

...but here are some pics of the current project:

More details to follow.

203 Charting Developments

Hey All,

Three things to share with you today. Firstly a proper shout out to both Zzzzz over at Devos IV (who has been kind enough to send me some bits to make an IG armoured car: watch this space!) and secondly to my esteemed Suneokun over at Pathfinder who's hit the big 200 posts and 100 followers -Huzzah for him!

Thirdly, here are a few charts for you, to link to my own Post 200 - although I've expanded by 2-3 vehicles since then. Please note that the second and third charts are based on Imperial Armour update army lists:
Lastly, the most recent (and updated) painting chart:

202 Armoured Fist Squad 3

Hi All,

Here's my [metal!] Armoured Fist Squad 3:
And the back view. You may notice the grenade launcher trooper has been converted from an unloved Griffon mortar crewman:
I've been re-working my Armoured Fist platoon [see here and under 'Posted Units', right] to include 2nd Edition missile launchers - not because I think they'll be of use but simply because I really really like the models and if I had them as a separate h-w squad they're not supposed to have access to a chimera. According to the Codex, at least. I'll paint up a few spares eventually, then I'll have a little more flexibility.

Once I've done the other missile launchers, I'll post the whole platoon with transports - should make a nice photo.

I've also revamped my painting chart, thanks to a minor recent purchase and some AWESOME GENEROSITY from Zzzzz over at Devos IV. More on his beneficence later, but pop over to him if you've not done so already - he's got some great stuff in the pipeline.

201 Why Modelling is Good News for Your Pets

Take a look at this beauty*:
Mrs. Drax came in from walking Cadfael the other day, and whilst removing his collar let out a cry, to the effect that he had brought home a visitor - a tick.

To cut a long story shorter, she was...disinclined to remove said parasite, having done so a few times in the past and having been - rightly enough - disgusted with the whole process.

Luckily, whilst she was out I'd been painting, and it was at this pointI realised that my modelling supplies could in fact double as a makeshift amateur veterinarian surgery.

By the time I'd soused the little blighter in my surgical spirit [US: 'rubbing alcohol'] and blotted the same with my handy kitchen roll [paper towel], I had only to reach for my tweezers and a some quick de-ticking advice from the web, and lo! The little bloodsucker was deposited wriggling into a sheet of my newspaper...and crushed, like all the enemies of mankind. Luckily the scalpel was not needed.

Here's the patient this evening - I should point out that the poor fellow's in the Cone of Shame for an unrelated issue. He's a noble hound though, and it does at least afford his ears and nose some protection from the baby, who's now crawling, and always heads straight towards him!

Much more modelly stuff coming again more regularly soon: I should finish another squad tonight!

Post 200: Drax's Army Painted

Thanks for your patience, Faithful Readers - here's my painted army. Behold, my pride and joy:
These are all of my painted miniatures...pretty much. Here's a nice shot of them en masse:
And this is how it breaks down into four detachments. Firstly - and vitally - B Coy, 2/24th Cadian Light Infantry:
These guys are, of course, ably supported by their HQ + advisors and by their Hardened Veterans:
Secondly, an detachment from 1/24th Cadian Mechanised Infantry, with attached artillery support from the 144th Light Field Artillery Regt:
Thirdly, the heavy hitters from the 4th Armoured Regt:
And finally, the almost-painted Baneblade, Zarathustra:
There are, amongst all of this motley crew, only 3 models which aren't quite finished. The Baneblade, the Leman Russ Vanquisher and the Hydra turret. Other than this, there's an Armoured Fist squad notable by their absence (yet to be completed...or found again, for that matter!) and one of the Commissars has apparently not been based. Whoops!

Another group shot:
And in this one you can see the squad ID flashes on the back of each base:
Thanks so very very much for your encouragement. Now let's see what the future holds, eh?
